What Can Be Created by Using The Blend Tool Eps. 02 | Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

Previously I have made a tutorial about 3d objects using the Blend tool, namely What Can Be Created by Using The Blend Tool Eps. 01 | Adobe Illustrator Tutorial. 

The Blend Tool is one of the most popular tool in Adobe Illustrator, Besides it’s ability to blend an object with another object, its can be use to create some abstract artwork and many thing that can be done only with this powerful tool.

The blend tool can blend objects to create and distribute shapes evenly between two objects. You can also blend between two open paths to create a smooth transition between objects, or you can combine blends of colors and objects to create color transitions in the shape of a particular object.

So without any further ado just create new document.

Step 1: Create Background

First create the background with gradient color. I use pink and yellow gradient. For the pink color I use #FA5768. And for the yellow: #FFE37E. Don’t forget Set the gradient angle to 45 degrees.

And for the color stop on the pink, I move it a little to the left. So, that it adds the impression of pink looks more concentrated.

Step 2: Create The 3d Object

Actually we are not really creating a 3d object here because basically Adobe Illustrator is not a 3d application, we just create a 3d illusion by using the Blend Tool and giving it a gradient color so that it looks like a 3d object.

So, to create kind of 3d illusion with blend tool we need 2 objects to blend and one path as a Spine.

Create 2 Circle to be Blended

First we make two circles to blend. Use the ellipse tool with height and width 180 pixels. Then open the gradient panel to apply the color gradient. For the first color on the right Color Stop I give it pink: #FA5768, And the other side I use bright pink: #FFC8C5.

Create Line as Spine

Now, create a path as a spine. Draw this path Using Pen tool and draw resembling number two, make sure that fill is none and for stroke fill with black. Just like so.

Blending

Now Select the Blend Tool in the Toolbar and click one of that circle, Then click again on the other one.

After the two circles are blended, select the blended object and the line that we have made as a spine. Then go to the object menu. Blend. And select replace spine.

And the results now still don't show up the way we want, we still need to make some adjustments. Open the blend panel Object Menu > Blend > Blend Option. For a shorter way, just double click the Blend Tool on the Toolbar.

In this panel. Just change the spacing in to "Specified Distance" with 1 pixel for smoother transition, The orientation is “Align to Page” Then click ok.

Well it’s just need a few more adjustments. Double click the object to open the contain layer, and select one of that circle on tail of the number two, change the size to be smaller. And the angle of the gradient I change to -90 degrees. And the end result looks like this.

Create The Number 0

Now we will Create the number zero. Same as the number two that we have created earlier. Start with 2 circle with 180 pixels. apply the same Gradient as before. And for spines, draw an ellipse with the ellipse tool.

Blend the two circles, select the spine and the blended circle and select "Replace Spine".

Close Path as a Spine

Here we have a problem, where the two circles cannot meet each other. Whereas, I want the two circles to meet each other or they are close each other. This problem will happen if we create spine with the Geometric shape or it’s a close path like circle or square. To solve this problem we have to make it as open path.

To Fix it, just use direct selection tool. Select one of the anchor points and cut it with Cut Path the one with the scissors symbol in the control panel overview which is under the Menu Bar.

Again, Double click the object, Select one of the circles in it, And change the size to 80 pixels.

As we saw in the results, the smaller circle is above the big circle. But I want that smaller circle to be below the bigger circle.

To fix it I just need to right-click on the small one Select arrange > Send to back.

When finish. Just double click outside the object to exit the containing layer. The last. Play with rotation and send to back.

Now. Because we only need number 2 and 0. So, we don't need to make a new numbers anymore. Only copy the two objects down. By pressing the "ALT" key on the keyboard. And lifting it down.

And here we are with 3d Illusion Text by using the Blend Tool on Toolbar.

Ok Now we are done with this design.

 
This is just one of technical process to create some design stuff. You can use one of that technique, or you can combine with another Technic, to create more creative design stuff in Adobe Illustrator.
